We’ve designed this excursion as part of our ‘SCENTS OF LOŠINJ’ package. Initially, we’ll explore the Čikat Forest Park and the renowned statue of Ambroz Haračić, a distinguished botanist credited with the reforestation of Mali Lošinj with Aleppo pine and black pine. Additionally, we’ll delve into the history of the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy, for whom Lošinj was a favored vacation spot, evidenced by the numerous villas and summer residences that still grace the island. Lošinj is renowned as a climatic health resort, particularly for the treatment of respiratory ailments and allergies.
Lošinj is renowned for its delightful fragrances. After traversing the dense pine forests, a hallmark of the Čikat region, we’ll proceed to the Fine Sensed Garden.
This garden is no ordinary botanical garden or medicinal herb garden. True to its name, it showcases the diverse array of scents found on the island, many of which were introduced by Lošinj sailors returning from distant shores long ago. Featuring over 250 wild herbs from both Lošinj and Cres islands, this garden offers an olfactory journey like no other.
The garden’s plant habitats are enclosed by stone drywalls, a nod to the island’s traditional folk architecture. From the garden’s secluded retreats and relaxation areas, you can enjoy stunning views extending to the Velebit mountain range.
